NATIONAL CONFERENCE CALLS FOR MEMORANDUM FROM THE PUBLIC. EDO STATE MATTERS.

Barr. Friday Ojealaro
Barrister Friday Ojealaro posts:

Edo State have many problems as a people that we need bring forward at the National Conference. Some of the major ones are as follow:
(1) The Odua States of Yoruba are yet to pay give us our share of the assets of the old Western region, assets acquired via agrarian produce of which Midwestern region contributed more.

(2)The abandonment of the oldest port in Nigeria-Gelegele by successive Nigeria Government. You know what economic benefits we stand to get if Gelegele port is revived.

(3) The ceding of the BIGHT OF BENIN and some traditional Edo lands to ondo state under the watch of Olu Falae as SFG and Bode George as military Governor. Chief Omogui an Edo man was then the surveyor Gen of the fed. He refused to sign the document.

(4) Kogi states are claiming and collecting royalties on Edo solid minerals at Okpilla and environs

(5) Owan dialect speaking Edo people are still trapped in Ondo state.they have about 18 villages. Only Sobe has been returned.

(6) Through a new technology, Edo oil is being tapped via underground pipe through Oghara and Delta state is receiving the royalties for it

(7) Arusha Timbers are being fell and exported by Delta people without paying us compensation.

(8) The largest gas deposit is in Orhiomwon. It is being extracted even to niger by our federal government without corresponding compensation to the state. Efosa Uyigue has some useful facts on this qua her capacity as a one time Commissioner in the Edo State Oil Commission.

Let us fleshed these items and attach our reliefs to the National conference. Let us not say we were not given opportunities to be heard later..

  1. U are very right..... My only problem is that is that Nigeria is getting to 60yrs and those representing us at that confab (about 75%) are above 75 years... HOW CAN THEY THINK 30-50 years of steady development for Nigerians....
